The Compost Bin turns pig dung into what the fields want, and it is the farmer’s station. Every field recipe now makes a pack of ten, in a large bag: twenty dung and one large bag make ten fertiliser in thirty-five hours. A unit costs, takes and earns exactly what it did before; the bag is the only new cost, and ten is now the smallest batch.
Plain fertiliser feeds a field and changes nothing else, at any level. From October 2026 the bin also makes the kinds that move a vineyard’s soil, and they are the Farmer’s to sell, because a Brewer cannot make them:
- Garden lime lifts the soil’s pH by half a point, and sulphur mulch lowers it by half a point. Farmer level 2.
- Wood ash, three oak wood scraps for two ash in an hour, is the base of the fine kinds. Farmer level 3.
- Fine garden lime and fine sulphur mulch move the pH by a fifth of a point, for a vine that is nearly in its band. Farmer level 4.
- Rich compost feeds the field and halves its pH drift for three days. Farmer level 5.
The dung is scooped off your pigs with a small basket, chalk will come from the chalk pit (coming soon, the first piece of the vineyard update), sulphur is left behind when the Smelter makes iron, copper or steel ingots, and large bags are made at the basket weaver from fifteen reed. A hundred dung and five large bags is fifty fertiliser and a little over a week of continuous running, so this is a station you set going and leave rather than one you tend.
Worth knowing: dung has a second buyer. The leather tanner wants one per animal hide and one per prepared hide, so if anyone in the colony works leather you are both reaching into the same pile.
