You asked, and they’re in. Nettle, star anise, wormwood and hyssop now grow in the herb garden, alongside the fifty-odd herbs already there. (Fennel was on the list too, but it has been in the garden for a while; you’ll find it with the others.)
The four
- Nettle. The stinging weed every farmhand knows, and the one every herbalist secretly prizes. Gloves recommended.
- Star anise. Strictly the seed pod of a small evergreen, not a herb, but it grows happily in the garden and its eight-pointed stars are hard to mistake.
- Wormwood. Silver, feathery and famously bitter. The herb behind a certain green spirit.
- Hyssop. Spikes of violet-blue flowers on a woody little shrub, an old favourite of physicians and brewers alike.
Growing them
They grow exactly like every other herb in the garden:
- Plough the plot with a hoe.
- Plant one of the herb itself. There is no herb seed: you plant the herb you’re carrying.
- Water it with a clay jar.
- Let it grow for seven days.
- Harvest with a small basket, for five to ten at a time, five harvests a planting.
Every stage pays Herbalist crafting experience.
Getting your first one
Since you plant the herb itself, you need one to start:
- Forage for it. Open the compass’s herb menu and search for it by name.
- Buy one from another player, or from a market hub if one is carrying it.
After that the garden keeps you supplied: one planting gives plenty to replant with.
What they’re for
For now they’re ingredients waiting for a purpose. Herbalists and cooks: these are yours to work into new potions, teas, brews and dishes. We’d love to see what you scribe.
