Share, don't lock: farming, gathering and colony storage

Three things changed this week, and all of them come down to the same idea. Work you put in should be yours, whoever happens to be standing there when it finishes.

Update your stations and fields with your [SLC] Updater to get them. v0.21.1 is now available in store!

Public fields now share the harvest

If you plough, plant or water a public field, you get a share of every harvest from that crop — even if somebody else does the harvesting.

  • Ploughing, planting, watering and harvesting all count.
  • Your share follows the energy you put in. The more you worked the crop, the more you receive.
  • Small helpers still get theirs. Shares are kept fair across the whole crop, so the player who only watered still gets their turn of it, not just whoever did the most.
  • Your share goes straight to your inventory, wherever you are.
  • If someone harvests a crop you worked on, the notification bell on the website tells you what you received. One notice a day, never spam.

No more racing other players to the harvest. No more losing your work to whoever turns up first.

No more locked benches

Finished goods no longer lock to the person who started the craft. They wait on the bench until someone collects them — and they will still spoil if you leave them, so don’t forget the cooking.

  • Public benches: anyone can collect, and the goods always go to the crafter. Help a friend out by picking up their bread before it burns.
  • Colony benches: any member can collect, and the goods go wherever your colony has chosen.
  • Group and private benches: whoever collects gets the goods.

No more holding a field by standing next to it

Once you have finished your work on a field, the next player can step in — even if you are still standing there.

Colony leaders: choose where your members’ work goes

On your colony page, leaders and managers can now set where shared work ends up.

  • Pick per kind of work: crafting, gathering and farming each get their own choice.
  • Or go finer than that. A kind of station, tree, node or field can have its own destination — send everything from your cooking stations to the kitchen larder, your timber to the woodshed and your crops to the granary.
  • Each one goes to a colony storage, or to the worker’s own inventory.
  • Set nothing and nothing changes. Goods go to whoever did the work, exactly as before.

Every member can see the choices, so everybody knows where to look for the colony’s goods.

Public gather nodes are unaffected — whoever gathers from a public node keeps the loot, as always.

Also in this update

  • Herb plots no longer error when you plant, with all 53 herbs in the list.
  • Progress bars stay one size from start to finish.
  • The “please be patient” message now names the actual work — ploughing, watering, and so on.

All of this started with feedback from players. Keep it coming — reply here and tell us how it plays. :sheaf_of_rice:

There we a couple nitty issues with the latest updater. Some scripts got memory issues on collecting crafts and some got “You are too far away” and then some wouldn’t let you sit on stations with sit requirements.

I forgot to turn on “Use Experience” on 2 of the scripts inside the updater.

A new updater is in the store v0.21.3 if you are having any issues. It should solve all of the above.
